About the Course

The article presents the findings of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) that tested the efficacy of harm reduction treatment for alcohol (HaRT-A) among people experiencing homelessness and alcohol use disorder (AUD). The study compared the outcomes of participants receiving HaRT-A to a control group receiving services as usual over a three-month period. The results demonstrated that HaRT-A participants showed significant reductions in peak alcohol use, alcohol-related harm, AUD symptoms, and positive alcohol tests, although there were no significant improvements in quality of life (QoL).

This course is based on the reading online article, Randomized Controlled Trial of Harm Reduction Treatment for Alcohol (HaRT-A) for People Experiencing Homelessness and Alcohol Use Disorder created by Dr. Susan E. Collins et al in 2019.
