About the Event

Motivational Interviewing is an evidenced-based practice that began as a method for behavioral health counselors and psychotherapists to help people change. It is now used internationally in a wide variety of professions to help others achieve goals that are important and meaningful to them. Motivational Interviewing is a way of being with those you seek to serve and uses many approaches to help clients move toward change and growth. In this presentation, the practitioner will learn and hone Motivational Interviewing skills that can be used to enhance the practitioner and client relationship thus helping clients move toward positive behavior change.

Christie Turner, NCC, LCADC, LPCC-S, CCS

Christie Turner is a National Certified Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor, and a Certified Clinical Supervisor in the state of Kentucky. In October 2023, Christie traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark and attended 3 days of training to become a member of MINT, the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. She has worked for Kentucky River Community Care, Inc. for 25 years in various roles and is currently a clinical supervisor, trainer, and consultant. Her favorite evidenced-based practice is Motivational Interviewing as it has personally changed her life and the lives of many others she has worked with over the years. Christie resides in Booneville, KY with her husband and two dogs. She loves to read, travel, walk, and study research on how people change. Christie believes we all possess what we need to change our lives and live up to our full potential. It just takes one caring individual to help us realize this.

Target Audience

This live interactive webinar is intended for behavioral health professionals, including Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, MFT's and Addiction Professionals.

  2. 2 List the 4 Tasks of Motivational Interviewing and how they are used to move people toward positive behavior change.
  3. 3 Identify the 7 types of Change Talk and how they are used to move clients forward in the change process.
  4. 4 Explain at least 3 ways they can structure their Motivational Interviewing sessions for success.
