Roger H. Peters, PhD

Dr. Peters is a Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy at the University of South Florida, where he has served as a faculty member since 1986, and as Department Chair from 2004-2011. Dr. Peters has pursued research, consultation, and training initiatives involving substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and behavioral health treatment within the criminal justice system.

Elizabeth Rojas, MA

Elizabeth Rojas is a post-doctoral fellow at the VA in Palo Alto.

Marla G. Bartoi, PhD

Dr. Bartoi is a Licensed Psychologist and Assistant Professor (Clinical) in the Department of Psychology. She oversees special projects, supervises graduate students in psychotherapy and assessment, and provides clinical services. Her research interests are in cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety disorders and depression, effects of sexual abuse on emotional and sexual functioning, intellectual assessment and substance abuse treatment.

Sandi Cardaman is a Licensed Mental Health counselor who has been working in the field for more than 20 years. In that time she has worked as a counselor and provided supervision to interns. Sandi has worked with clients struggling with anger management, domestic violence, eating disorders and mood disorders as well as those dealing with the dependency system.

Target Audience

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially addiction counselors, psychologists, mental health counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about screening and assessing incarcerated individuals with co-occurring disorders. It is appropriate for intermediate and above levels of participants' knowledge. This course content is at the intermediate level.
