About the Course

This course describes the results of a study determining the effects of the intervention program called Prev@cib on traditional bullying and cyberbullying. This course will discuss the definitions and give overviews of bullying, cyberbullying, and the Prev@cib program. The effects of bullying and cyberbullying on both victims and aggressors will be discussed. The theoretical framework and Modules of the Prev@cib program will be described. The results of the study which is described in this article will be discussed. Finally, the limitations of this study will be reviewed, along with recommendations for future research.

This course is based on the reading-based online, Effects of Intervention Program Prev@cib on Traditional Bullying and Cyberbullying created by Jessica Ortega-Barón, et al. in 2019.

Jessica Ortega-Barón
Jessica Ortega-Barón is a member of the Faculty of Education, Department of Psychology of Education and Psychobiology, International University of la Rioja (UNIR). Her research focuses on adolescents and the internet. She has published more than 30 articles in peer reviewed journals.
Sofía Buelga, PhD
Dr. Buelga is a member of the Faculty of Psychology, Department Social Psychology, University of Valencia. Her research focuses on violence and bullying and she has had more than 50 articles published in peer reviewed journals.
Ester Ayllón
Ester Ayllón is on staff at the University of Zaragoza in the Departamento de Psicología y Sociología. Her research focuses on children's mobility at school and how they deal with stressors. She has had more than 10 articles published in peer reviewed journals.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Define cyberbullying, recognize the negative consequences of being bullied or cyberbullied, and discuss the connections between bullying and cyberbullying.
  2. 2 Identify and discuss the background and data regarding bullying and cyberbullying, and discuss the need for evidence-based programs to prevent and intervene in these types of peer violence.
  3. 3 Describe the theoretical framework and background of the Prev@cib bullying and cyberbullying program.
  4. 4 Discuss the components of the Prev@cib intervention program.
  5. 5 Describe the results of the current study regarding the effectiveness of the Prev@cib intervention program, and discuss recommendations for future research.
