About the Event

The purpose of this keynote session is to explore how behavioral health services with adolescents and young adults is significantly influenced by a series of major movements or trends. These movements, which include a focus on well-being, evidence-based practice, treatment outcomes, provider effects, and specialized approaches, are concurrent with a worldwide emphasis on prevention, health, and education, and provide direction for the future of behavioral health. In this keynote session, we will explore five research-based principles that underscore these major movements and serve as a foundation for effective services. In doing so, we will consider the influence historical figures and recent innovators in psychology and psychotherapy have had on the development of current treatment perspectives and practices. Participants will also be introduced to specific processes and practices for helping adolescents and young adults to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes.

Live Event This is a live online event. It will be conducted via Zoom Webinar.

Bob Bertolino, PhD

I have several professional roles, all of which are intertwined to help me become the best clinician, researcher, and trainer I can be. Like others in search of excellence, I work hard each day to improve my knowledge and skills to help others live full and engaged lives.

I am a professor of Rehabilitation Counseling at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, where I have taught since 2001. I teach a variety of courses, primarily graduate, in counseling, health professions, and psychology. I am also Sr. Clinical Advisor at Youth In Need (YIN), Inc., a community-based non-profit organization in eastern Missouri that serves children, youth, and families. I have worked with YIN for 26 years and am part of the Executive Management Team. In my role, I oversee clinical outcomes and provide training, consultation and clinical supervision. I also oversee the development of YIN's state-of-the-art cloud-based outcomes management system (OMS), Imagine.

I am a Sr. Associate for the International Center for Clinical Excellence (ICCE). I was part of a team, led by Dr. Scott D Miller, who helped to gain approval for Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) as an evidence-based practice (EBP) through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). FIT is listed as an EBP on the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

I have taught over 500 workshops throughout the United States and 11 countries. I’ve worked with numerous national, state, and local organizations, and both the United States Army and United States Navy. I have authored or co-authored 14 books on counseling, psychotherapy, and youth care work. My books have been published in 6 languages.

I am a licensed marital and family therapist and professional counselor in the state of Missouri, a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, a National Board Certified Fellow in Hypnotherapy, and a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
