About the Event

Every therapist learns to hold space for pain. What happens in the body while doing so often receives far less attention.

Research on trauma has demonstrated that trauma is not solely a cognitive experience, but also a physiological one. The nervous system may respond not only to direct threat, but also to the presence of another’s distress. When a client becomes activated, clinicians may experience corresponding physiological responses. Over time, this activation—when not fully processed—can accumulate across sessions and contribute to vicarious trauma.

Somatic approaches to trauma highlight the importance of completing the body’s stress response cycle. Without opportunities to discharge activation, clinicians may remain physiologically impacted despite cognitive processing or supervision.

This three-hour workshop addresses this gap by introducing practical, body-based strategies for managing vicarious trauma. Participants will learn to identify somatic indicators of activation during and after sessions, practice somatic discharge techniques, and develop a personalized nervous system protection protocol tailored to their individual patterns and clinical context. Participants will leave with tools that can be applied immediately in their clinical work.

Live Event This is a live online event. It will be conducted via Zoom Webinar.
