About the Course

This course provides an overview of three core, research-backed approaches that are commonly used in effective group counseling for substance use disorders. You’ll learn the core principles, techniques, and practical applications of each model in real-world group settings. Concepts are broken down into clear, actionable steps, with guidance on adapting them to group dynamics. By the end of the course, you will have a toolkit of evidence-based methods to help participants build insight, strengthen coping skills, increase motivation, foster psychological safety, and deepen their recovery support networks.

This course does not offer APA or ASWB approved credits.

This course is based on the reading online article, Integrating Evidence-Based Approaches Into Group Facilitation created by Danny Wamsley in 2025.
