About the Course

This clinical update reviews the use of telepsychiatry to deliver psychiatric, mental health, and care coordination to children and adolescents across settings as direct service and in collaboration with primary care providers or other clinicians.

This course is based on the article, Clinical Update: Telepsychiatry with Children and Adolescents created by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Committee on Telepsychiatry and AACAP Committee on Quality Issues in 2017.

Dr. Henderson completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda MD, and my internship at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Medical Center in San Antonio TX. She is am an integrative therapist who focuses on brief, positive, solutions-focused therapy and is experienced in treating a variety of mental health concerns-- depression, anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, parenting concerns, and more. She is currently practicing in Alaska.

Target Audience

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, medical professionals, psychologists and social workers. This course is appropriate for all levels of knowledge. The content is at a beginning level.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Define terms specific to the delivery of telepsychiatry services including mental health and care coordination services to children and adolescents.
  2. 2 Identify and describe the current status of telepsychiatry as a mode of health service delivery.
  3. 3 Identify requirements and procedures for conducting telepsychiatry services and for optimizing the clinical experience.
