About the Course

Suicide is reaching epidemic proportions, with over 44,000 deaths by suicide in the US, and 800,000 worldwide in 2015. This, despite research and development of evidence-based interventions that target suicidal behavior directly. Suicide prevention efforts need a comprehensive approach, and research into its psychology must lead to effective implementation across public and mental health systems. These two articles review the data available and make recommendations to address this concern.

This course is based on the article, Suicide-Specific Psychotherapy for the Treatment of Suicidal Crisis: A Review of Clinical Effectiveness created by Sara D. Khangura, MPH, et al. in 2018 and on the article, The Zero Suicide Model: Applying Evidence-Based Suicide Prevention Practices to Clinical Care created by Beth S. Brodsky, PhD. et al. in 2018.
