Dr. Karaye is a professor at the Department of Population Health, Hofstra University. His research focuses on health disparities and he has more than 100 works published in peer reviewed journals.
Nasim Maleki, PhD
Dr. Maleki is an assistant professor at the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School. Her research areas include brain aging, pain threshold and sex dimorphism. She has had more than 50 works published in peer reviewed journals.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Discuss disparities in alcohol consumption, alcohol use disorders, alcohol dependence, relapse, and age-adjusted mortality rate.
  2. 2 Identify which group has the highest age-adjusted mortality rate, and which groups have an increasing rate.
  3. 3 Describe groups which should have targeted prevention based on this data.
