About the Course

The article explores the processes of addiction substitution and concurrent recovery among individuals recovering from gambling disorder. Through a mixed-method study involving semi-structured interviews with 185 participants, the study examines the reasons, emotional states, and psychological vulnerabilities associated with addiction substitution and concurrent recovery. The findings highlight the role of underlying psychological factors, such as impulsivity and emotion dysregulation, and emphasize the need for integrated treatment approaches targeting these transdiagnostic mechanisms.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Addiction Substitution and Concurrent Recovery in Gambling Disorder: Who Substitutes and Why? created by Dr. Hyoun S. Kim et al in 2023.
