About the Event

AI assistants are already being used in behavioral health settings, often ahead of clear guidance. This live, hands-on session gives clinicians and supervisors a practical, ethics-first framework for deciding whether, where, and how to use AI assistants in practice. Participants will examine what AI tools can and cannot do and apply their professional code of ethics, HIPAA requirements, and agency policies to determine which tasks an AI assistant may support and which must remain with the clinician.

Using a guided time and task audit, each participant will select one repeatable administrative task and build a simple AI assistant for that task, with written guardrails, a clearly defined purpose, and confidentiality protections. The session will address key risks of AI-assisted work, including hallucination, algorithmic bias, over-reliance, and exposure of client information. Participants will also learn structured testing approaches, including peer testing, before relying on an assistant in practice. The session will conclude with development of a human-oversight plan addressing review, informed consent, supervision, and agency governance. Participants will leave with a working assistant, a completed playbook, and a framework they can reuse. No technical background is required; free versions of Claude or ChatGPT are sufficient for the hands-on activities.

Live Event
This live online event will be held as a Zoom Meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in discussions using cameras and microphones, and the presenter may incorporate breakout rooms. Participation via camera and microphone is not required to earn CE credit, though it is highly encouraged.
