Credentials This Covers

Every credential below carries the same requirements.

  • OT Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • OTA Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA)

Each requires 30 CE credit hours to renew.

About This Approval

The Board does not pre-approve CE. Licensees should look to the CE definition and determine whether the courses relate to OT practice and be prepared to demonstrate how the credit relates if requested.

You will have no problem if your continuing education comes from educational sessions relating to occupational therapy sponsored by OTAO, AOTA, AOTA approved providers, and NBCOT or professional academic institutions relating to occupational therapy. You can receive one point per hour of attendance, with documentation.

CE Requirements for Current Licensees

  • All current licensees shall obtain a minimum of 30 CE hours from Board approved categories during the two years immediately preceding the date of the license renewal
  • Maintenance of current NBCOT Certification (National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy) may be used to satisfy the requirements for CE but may not be used to satisfy the mandatory legislative requirements listed below.

Check to see if your NBCOT certification is current:  https://www.nbcot.org

Additional mandatory legislative requirements:

  • Completion of the OHA Pain Management Module during every renewal period. The course is 1 hour and can be used toward satisfying the total number of hours required for renewal. For more information and to register for the module: https://www.oregon.gov/otlb/Pages/Pain-Management.aspx
