AOTA 0000000991

The Board of Allied Health Professions checks the backgrounds of those seeking licensure in various health professions. These include occupational therapists and assistants, athletic trainers, and physical therapists and assistants.

The Board looks at the qualifications of applicants for licensure and grants licenses, upholding standards and rules to ensure quality and integrity for those seeking a license or grant license. The Board’s top priority is the protection of patients and consumers.

On April 29, 2022, the Board of Allied Health Professions issued regulations requiring licensees to complete continuing competence activities (i.e., continuing education) before renewal.

CE REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistants are required, as a condition of license renewal, to complete a minimum of 24 hours of Board recognized activities for maintaining continuing education during the preceding biennial renewal period.

  • For each renewal period, each occupational therapy professional’s continuing education hours must include 2 hours in ethics, laws and regulations governing practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or some combination thereof.
  • Board-approved continuing education activities must relate to the science or contemporary clinical practice of occupational therapy and to the licensee’s current or anticipated professional roles and responsibilities of the following type and variety.
