About the Course

This course discusses the usability of web-based alcohol education for adults 55 and older. Drinking frequency and quantity were measured at baseline and 4 week follow-up. Participants were given a URL and their choice of instructions online or in hard copy. The usability of the systems was measured in a survey at the end.

Arlene Fink, PhD
Arlene Fink (PhD) is Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles, and president of the Langley Research Institute. Her main interests include evaluation and survey research and the conduct of research literature reviews as well as the evaluation of their quality. Dr. Fink has conducted scores of evaluation studies in public health, medicine, and education. She is on the faculty of UCLA’s Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and is a scientific and evaluation advisor to UCLA’s Gambling Studies and IMPACT (Improving Access, Counseling & Treatment for Californians with Prostate Cancer) programs. She consults nationally and internationally for agencies such as L’institut de Promotion del la Prévention Secondaire en Addictologie (IPPSA) in Paris, France, and Peninsula Health in Victoria, Australia. Professor Fink has taught and lectured extensively all over the world and is the author of more than 130 peer-reviewed articles and 15 textbooks.

Lorna Kwan is an experienced Principal Statistician with a demonstrated history of 20+ years working in health services and oncologic research. She has published over 100 peer reviewed articles.
Dan Osterweil, MD
Dan Osterweil, MD, FACP, Msc Ed., CMD, Vice President and Medical Director of SCAN Health Plan and Professor of Medicine at UCLA, completed a geriatrics fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Osterweil is the founder and Medical Director of the Specialized Ambulatory Geriatric Evaluation (S+AGE™) Clinic, a community-based, geriatric assessment center in Sherman Oaks. He is the Emeritus-editor of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (JAMDA), which he founded.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
